Revamped Panther Island development guidelines revealed

The city of Fort Worth and the Tarrant Regional Water District hosted an evening meeting June 3 at Rose Marine Theater to provide public awareness of updates to the form-based codes that will guide all new development on Panther Island.

Nearly 50 interested citizens dotted the historic Northside theater to hear the update. Mayor Pro Tem Carlos Flores credited public feedback as being the catalyst for the changes. “We had a recent effort, in 2023, where we took in stakeholder input from different communities, not just the development community but also from community stakeholders, the downtown area and property owners alike,” Flores said. Flores represents District 2, where the majority of the Panther Island project is located.

That feedback resulted in what is now called Panther Island Vision 2.0. Key priorities include a robust open space network, continuous waterfront and canal access, smaller blocks with walkable streets, preservation of view corridors, and having development density concentrated in the center of the island.
