Throughout the early daylight hours, it will be mostly sunny in the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) area, with a heat index value as high as 105 degrees. Things will take a turn after sunset, as a weak cold front approaches the Red River, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
Folks based near Sherman, Paris, and Waco are among those who could be impacted. These cities could see lows between 76 and 79 degrees, the agency says. It will provide some relief to the region’s residents. Over the last few days, meteorologists have been warning that the first extended stretch of summertime heat and humidity is underway.
However, the front is also expected to spark scattered thunderstorms in and near DFW. They are most likely to develop north of I-20 through at least midday Friday, June 12, per the NWS’s forecast discussion. Some could become strong, with frequent lightning and gusty winds. Thursday night, winds could reach up to 20 mph. Locals should prepare to reschedule any outdoor activities if they hear thunder.
