First H-E-B in North Texas suburb sends shoppers camping out

The dedication to H-E-B in Texas knows no bounds. And as one Dallas suburb gets its first real grocery store, after settling for the brand’s discount chain (Joe V’s Smart Shop), the excitement proves that H-E-B really is Texas’ favorite grocery store.

H-E-B officially opened the doors to its first Irving location, a small suburb between Fort Worth and Dallas. Anticipation has mounted since word of Irving’s first location two years ago. In fact, The Grapevine Edit reports that eager shoppers set up tents and camped out before opening day, forming a line on Monday, June 15, that would eventually wrap around the building by Wednesday.

While that may seem extreme, H-E-B is a beloved staple. Before Wednesday, shoppers seeking staples from a full-fledged store had to trek past the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport to the west or even further north of Dallas. Plus, the new Irving digs boast some iconic features and one offering that isn’t available elsewhere just yet.

“The Irving H-E-B features exciting amenities such as a True Texas BBQ restaurant with drive-thru,” a statement from H-E-B officials reads. “The first in the company, H-E-B introduced, at this location, Masal House, an H-E-B product line that offers customers meal options made in-house daily such as chicken masala, butter chicken, naan brad, chutney dips, and more.”…
