Irving, TX — Michaels unveiled its 2026 Halloween décor lineup this week, framed as a “Halloween Rewind” and built around six themed collections that lean hard into nostalgia. The collections draw from vintage carnival mysticism, late-’90s roller-rink culture, neighborhood Halloween parties, gothic libraries, witchy coming-of-age stories, and Victorian gothic romance. The retailer calls it its most expansive assortment to date.
This announcement caught my attention because of what Michaels’ merchandising chief said about why the company is leaning into nostalgia. Retail is the first wave of Halloween and most Americans will buy something for Halloween or decorate. Basically, retail sets the mood for Halloween, and the mood Michaels is saying resonates this year is nostalgia.
“Halloween has always been about revisiting the traditions, stories and rituals that make the season feel magical year after year,” said Stacey Shively, chief merchandising officer at Michaels. “As consumers continue embracing analog living, we’re seeing renewed interest in the nostalgic aesthetics of past generations.
