A Fort Worth man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to murder in the 2024 shooting death of 29-year-old Bryson Rodgers outside a business in the West 7th entertainment district. Karlove Palmer, 31, admitted to pulling a gun and shooting Rodgers instead of engaging in a fight during a confrontation that began as a personal dispute among the two men’s social circles.
The Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office announced the sentence in a social media post crediting the Fort Worth Police Department, thanking officers for their work on the case and their commitment to community safety, according to the Tarrant County DA. Assistant District Attorneys Lloyd Whelchel and Jeff Stewart prosecuted the case, with Investigator Caleb Blank assisting. Palmer confronted Rodgers, who was standing outside with friends in the crowded nightlife corridor on March 2, 2024, before the shooting occurred.

An arrest warrant affidavit reported by FOX 4 revealed the shooting stemmed from a personal dispute rooted in Palmer’s disapproval of a friend’s relationship with Rodgers’ roommate. Both the victim’s group and the suspect reportedly had reservations at a virtual reality business in the 2900 block of Crockett Street, where the confrontation ultimately turned deadly.
How a Shouting Match Turned Into Gunfire
According to the affidavit details published by FOX 4, Rodgers handed his phone to a friend to prepare for a physical fight after Palmer repeatedly shouted at him. Instead of throwing a punch, Palmer pulled a handgun and fired approximately five shots, with no physical altercation ever taking place.
