DALLAS, TX — North Texas is under another stretch of dangerous heat after a record-breaking Monday pushed Dallas-Fort Worth to 109 degrees, topping the daily mark of 107. The extreme heat warning remains in effect through 9 p.m. Tuesday, and forecasters say most of the region will stay above 100 degrees through the evening. Monday remains the hottest day of this round, but Tuesday will still bring another afternoon of extreme heat. Conditions are expected to ease only modestly by Wednesday.
Record Heat Hits DFW
High temperatures across North Texas are expected to run from about 105 to 109 degrees on Monday, with the Dallas-Fort Worth area reaching the top end of that range. The combination of strong late-summer heat, south-southwest winds and very low humidity has made the day especially dangerous. Temperatures are expected to stay above 100 well into the evening before slowly dropping after sunset.
Tuesday will stay brutally hot, with highs generally ranging from 100 to 109 degrees. A First Alert Weather Day is in place, and while a few clouds or showers could develop in the morning, widespread rain is not expected. Forecasters say the upper-level ridge responsible for the heat is starting to shift, but North Texas will remain locked in very hot air through the day.
Midweek Brings Slight Relief
Wednesday is expected to be the first day of noticeable relief, although temperatures will still be well above normal. As the ridge shifts farther west into the Desert Southwest, weak northerly flow aloft should allow afternoon highs to ease into the upper 90s to low 100s. Dallas-Fort Worth is forecast to be around 102 degrees.
That change may also open the door to low rain chances as weak disturbances move through the region. Forecasters expect some clouds and a few isolated showers or thunderstorms at times, but any meaningful rainfall remains uncertain. Most communities are still likely to stay dry even as the atmosphere becomes a little less extreme. The overall pattern remains hot, dry and slow to change.
Weekend Outlook Stays Hot
The upcoming weekend should be less severe than Monday and Tuesday, but temperatures are still expected to stay high. Forecast highs are projected to range from the upper 90s to around 103 degrees.
