New store moving into former Sears in Arlington mall. Hint: It’s not Spirit Halloween

Dick’s Sporting Goods will be building a House of Sport in The Parks Mall at Arlington.

Initial renovation work for the store is expected to start in December and be completed by April , according to state filings. The project will likely cost roughly $660,000.

The 120,000-square-foot Dick’s House of Sport at 3871 S. Cooper St. will fill a space previously occupied by Sears, which left the mall in 2020.

There are 20 House of Sport locations across 14 states, including ones in Friendswood and Katy.

Unlike in traditional stores, shoppers at House of Sport can fine-tune their swing in a batting cage, try out a new driver in a golf simulator or climb a rock wall. The stores also host community events, like workout classes.

Dick’s expects to open between 75 and 100 House of Sport locations by 2027. The Pittsburgh-based company has been expanding its footprint in the Metroplex, including an 800,000-square-foot distribution center under construction in south Fort Worth.

Dick’s sales were over $12.9 billion in 2023.
