Several Montgomery County roadways lowering speed limits to promote safety

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — If you’re driving through Montgomery County, you may soon notice lower speed limits on several roads.

The Montgomery County Department of Transportation said it is continuing to lower the speed limits on neighborhood streets and downtown boulevards across the county to help promote safer streets for cyclists and pedestrians.

The effort follows the 2021 passage of House Bill 562, which authorizes the county to lower the maximum speed limit on local roadways to 20 mph, and in some instances, as low as 15 mph…
