Thousands lose power across DMV after storms swept across region

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Thousands of families across the DMV are waking up without power after strong and severe thunderstorms swept across the region, snapping trees and damaging utility lines.

In Northern Virginia, the Dominion Energy outage map showed that more than 47,000 customers were without electricity. The map revealed that the majority of power outages were in Fairfax County, where about 21,233 customers were in the dark, as of Friday morning.

In Arlington, the map reflected about 17,814 customers also without service. Additional major outages were in the following areas:

  • Alexandria: 7,467 customers out
  • Fairfax City: 821 customers out

Over in D.C. and Maryland, about 42,511 customers were without service, and crews were working on nearly 530 active outages…
