On August 27, 2026, Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown filed a lawsuit in Baltimore City Circuit Court against UnitedHealth Group and its subsidiary Optum Inc.
The lawsuit alleges that Optum provided a defective computer system to Maryland’s Medicaid behavioral health program — a system that crashed on its first day of use, had to be taken offline for eight months, and according to the attorney general’s office, “never functioned properly.”
