Montgomery County Councilmember Kate Stewart introduced three bills Tuesday that would expand tax credits for homeowners, Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) employees and families with modest incomes.
Bill 47-26, introduced by Stewart and Councilmembers Shebra Evans, Andrew Friedson and Sidney Katz, would expand eligibility for the County’s supplement to the Homeowners’ Tax Credit. The bill would raise the maximum household gross income from $75,000 to $106,800, potentially allowing more working families and older residents on fixed incomes to qualify.
Bill 48-26 would extend a $2,500 property tax credit currently available to certain County first responders to certain MCPS employees. Supporters say the measure is intended to make it more affordable for school employees to live in the County where they work…
