A car crash killed 3 people and injured two others on the I-66 road on Sunday afternoon.
A multi vehicle crash occurred around 4:10 p.m. on Sunday September 6th 2026 in the I-66 express lanes around the I-495 interchange. After the accident the police were forced to shut down the road for several hours due to traffic being pooled into just a few lanes.
According to police, a truck carrying oxygen tanks was stopped in the middle of the express lane as well as a Toyota 4Runner after the Toyota was run off the lane and hit road markers. A Honda crashed into the back of the truck and ended up hitting the oxygen tanks it was carrying. After the Honda hit the truck, the oxygen tanks reacted with the heat, causing the gas inside to expand and eventually explode. The SUV caught fire and sadly the three people inside the Honda, that consisted of two adults and a child, were pronounced dead on arrival…
