Poolesville High School was ranked the best public high school in Maryland by education website Niche, making it one of five high schools from Montgomery County that made it to the top 10 in the state.
The others were:
- No. 2, Winston Churchill High in Potomac
- No. 5, Walt Whitman High in Bethesda
- No. 8, Walter Johnson High in Bethesda and
- No. 9, Bethesda-Chevy Chase High school
The No. 3 and No. 4 schools were, respectively, River Hill High in Clarksville and Marriotts Ridge High in Marriottsville, both in Howard County.
To determine the ranking, Niche said it uses factors such as state assessment proficiency, college enrollment data, and survey responses on academics; culture and diversity; parent and student surveys on their experiences; teacher salary and staffing; clubs and activities; data on resources and facilities, including expenses per student and data related to athletic programs such as sport participation.
