Westfield overcomes rainy first half, routs Lake Braddock to remain unbeaten

Prior to kickoff Friday night, the rain refused to let up. It hammered the Francis L. Dall Sports Complex, soaked the stands, and had fans, reporters, and photographers scrambling for towels and umbrellas.

For at least a short while, it appeared the weather might dictate the kind of homecoming Westfield was going to have.

Though the rains let up in the second quarter, mist was still falling, and it seemed like Scott Vossler’s troops would once again brace for yet another close victory. But somewhere inside the Westfield locker room, the vibe seemed to change. Perhaps it was said that Westfield needed to stop playing like they were weathering a storm and instead, become the storm.

Indeed, a storm they did become. A frightening one at that. Twenty-eight points in the second half turned a 7-3 game that had been hanging in the balance into a 35-10 statement victory…
