DUI Fugitive’s 88 MPH Pursuit Ends In Hour-Long Stafford Standoff: Sheriff

A DUI driver wanted out of Prince William County led a police pursuit at nearly 90 miles per hour, and ended the night in an hour-long stand-off in Stafford, local authorities said.

Allen Stone, of King George, was spotted by a deputy failing to maintain lane in a Toyota Scion xB around 6:25 p.m. Jan. 21 on Barrett Heights Road in Stafford, Sheriff David Decatur said.

Stone ran the stop sign and turned onto westbound Garrisonville Road, police said. Deputy Bates followed the vehicle as it turned onto Eustace Road. He tried to conduct a traffic stop on Rocky Way Drive, but Stone sped up to 60 mph in the residential area and initiated a pursuit, Decatur said.

The pursuit briefly ended at the intersection of Rocky Way Drive and Larkwood Court when Stone failed to navigate the turn and careened into the snow filled ditch. Somehow, he was able to coax the Scion from the small gully and the chase continued through the subdivision.

Stone then turned onto Burns Road, then Settlers Way and then made a critical error with a right hand turn back onto Larkward Court, into the cul-de-sac.
