A swarm of solar ‘bees’ are coming to WNC community hubs

A new program will bring solar-powered microgrid setups to disaster-impacted areas in Western North Carolina to help local communities get off-grid power during storms.

Called Beehives, they run on up to 100 kilowatt hours of energy — enough to power a large building for up to 10 hours in the event of a blackout.
