Monthlong Ecusta Trail closures planned during work on U.S. 64

The Ecusta Trail will close twice for a month later this year to allow for work on neighboring U.S. 64, with the first closure on July 6 at the White Pine Drive intersection.

During the closure, a roundabout will be constructed along U.S. 64 and the trail will be raised six feet in elevation. The project — a partnership between the North Carolina Department of Transportation, Henderson County and the Town of Laurel Park — should improve congestion and safety on U.S. 64, as well as improved facilities for drivers, cyclists, pedestrians and trail users.

After the trail reopens, road construction will continue for up to another 35 days. U.S. 64 will remain open with intermittent lane closures during construction…
