Hendersonville Oral-History Listening Session Set for July 20th

Hendersonville residents will have an opportunity to hear firsthand accounts from the city’s historically black neighborhoods and contribute materials to a community archive during a July 20 listening session.

The Neighborhood History Project event begins at 6 p.m. at St. Paul’s Tabernacle AME Zion Church, 813 Sixth Avenue West in Hendersonville. The City of Hendersonville is presenting the program in partnership with the Henderson County NAACP.

Participants will hear selected excerpts from oral histories recorded with longtime residents. A guided discussion will explore the history, culture and lived experiences that shaped Hendersonville’s historically Black neighborhoods and their continuing impact…
