BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. (WBTV) – A college building in the Asheville area was declared a total loss after a major fire broke out Thursday.
Abbott Hall — home to Montreat College’s outdoor recreation studies program — caught fire Thursday, July 16. The building, located on Montreat’s Black Mountain campus, was recently renovated and dedicated as Abbott Hall in 2022.
“Abbott Hall was an important home for our outdoor recreation studies program, but buildings do not define our mission,” said Dr. Paul J. Maurer, President of Montreat College. “We will move forward together, continue serving our students, and trust in God’s faithfulness as we determine the next steps.”
