MADISON COUNTY, NC — The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation says it has arrested former Madison County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Bronis Coy Phillips in connection with alleged criminal activity involving inmates and detention facility staff.

Authorities say Phillips faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges. The arrest was made in Maricopa County, Arizona, on Sunday, June 14, at 12:10 a.m., and he is being held without bond.

The extradition process to North Carolina has begun as investigators continue to review the case.
