No charges filed in officer involved shooting in Asheville

No criminal charges will be filed against two Asheville police officers who shot a man armed with a knife at a Westmont Commons apartment complex in June, Buncombe County District Attorney Todd Williams said.

The June 7 shooting involved 27-year-old Curtis Kavanaugh Zane, whom officers encountered after responding to a report of a person armed with a knife. According to Williams’ review, Zane advanced toward the officers while holding an 8-inch kitchen knife above his head, prompting Officers R.W. and B.S. to fire their weapons.

“Based on my personal review of this matter including a review of body-worn camera video and documentary evidence provided by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, I have determined that no violation of North Carolina law occurred,” Williams said…
