ASHEVILLE, N.C. (FOX Carolina) – The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) said they are looking for mama bear who needs to be “humanely dispatched” after entering several homes in Asheville since August.
Officials said that they have been searching for the bear since Aug. 18. Within 24 hours, the bear forcibly entered two homes in the Spooks Branch Road area, injuring a resident, and attempted to enter a third home.
Last weekend, the same bear attempted to enter a fourth home in the neighborhood, and staff suspects she attempted to enter a fifth home, officials said. Through monitoring efforts, staff confirmed she was in very close proximity at the time of recent attempted entries.
According to officials, the bear is not afraid of people, and she has forcibly entered homes of residents that have no evidence of unsecured trash or other outdoor attractants. She has learned that all homes have food inside. She not only poses a risk to human safety, but she is teaching her cubs the same unnatural behavior…
