Hendersonville moves to codify guidelines to preserve downtown character

HENDERSONVILLE – The city is moving to codify parts of its comprehensive plan, giving design guidelines force of law in an effort to preserve and improve downtown Hendersonville’s historic, walkable character.

“Outside of our historic districts, we don’t have any design control or standards, even though (downtown) is the most important part of our town, the core of our city, the most well-loved and prized area,” Hendersonville Long-Range Planning Director Matt Manley told the Times-News April 9.

City ordinance should require “features that are helping to create the traditional urban form that we want, that we see on Main Street and 7th Avenue,” he told members of the Hendersonville Planning Board at an April 9 meeting…
