McDowell County issues stage one water shortage advisory

MCDOWELL COUNTY, N.C. (WSPA) – McDowell County has issued a Stage One Water Shortage Advisory effective immediately for the Nebo community due to the ongoing drought in North Carolina.

The county is asking that all Nebo Water System customers voluntarily reduce non-essential water use by at least 5%.

County residents and businesses are strongly encouraged to limit water for non-essential uses, including:

  • Ornamental uses such as fountains, reflecting pools, and artificial waterfalls
  • Outdoor, noncommercial watering of gardens, lawns, parks, golf courses (excluding greens), playing fields, and other recreational areas
  • Filling and operation of residential swimming pools serving fewer than twenty-five (25) dwellings
  • Noncommercial washing of motor vehicles
  • Serving water in restaurants, clubs, or dining establishments except upon specific request
