MARSHALL, N.C. (WLOS) — A year and a half after Helene devastated Blannahassett Island in Marshall, local groups and volunteers are continuing work to restore one of downtown’s most important gathering spaces.
Asheville GreenWorks and Mountain Valleys Resource Conservation and Development Council led a tree planting effort Tuesday along the French Broad River, where volunteers planted 18 large native trees to help stabilize the riverbank and restore vegetation lost during the storm.
