Asheville prison to close due to difficulty in recruiting new staff, officials say

ASHEVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction reports it is preparing to close the Craggy Correctional Center in Asheville this summer.

Officials said the prison’s population of around 250 incarcerated men will gradually transfer out to other state prisons before. The 77 employees will be offered positions at other NCDAC facilities or work locations in western North Carolina. No one is expected to be laid off.
