TIMELINE: Severe storms, flooding possible in metro Atlanta, north Georgia | First Alert Weather

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — All of north Georgia could see strong to severe storms Wednesday into early Thursday. A flood watch is in effect from Wednesday afternoon to Thursday morning.

Storms could begin as isolated strong to severe thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon, mainly in north Georgia. The main severe threat is expected Wednesday evening through overnight for north Georgia and metro Atlanta.

TIMING

  • Wednesday morning to midday: Isolated, mainly non-severe storms possible in far north Georgia
  • Wednesday afternoon and evening (3 PM – 9 PM): Storms become more widespread across north Georgia, pushing south toward I-20
  • Wednesday night through Thursday morning (9 PM – 6 AM Thursday): Widespread storms continue shifting south into central Georgia.
  • For metro Atlanta specifically, the highest risk of severe weather will be from 6 PM Wednesday until midnight.

Storms should hold together as they move into Georgia overnight into Thursday. That could keep the threat going while many people are asleep.
