Local historian describes Aiken County’s crucial role in Revolutionary War

AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) — As the United States marks its 250th anniversary, one historian says the story of the American Revolution cannot be told without Aiken County, South Carolina — and the Irish-born Indian trader who kept a powerful Native nation out of the fight.

Milledge Galphin Murray is a volunteer historian and direct descendant of two Revolutionary-era figures. He holds original pre-1800 documents tied to that history, including one bearing the signature of George Walton, a signer of the Declaration of Independence.
