Flock cameras raise questions about safety, privacy after alleged misuse in Georgia

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF)- Flock Safety cameras are being used by law enforcement agencies across the country to help identify vehicles connected to crimes, recover stolen cars and locate wanted suspects. However, after two former Richmond County deputies were accused of misusing the technology, some local residents are questioning how the cameras are being used and who has access to the information they collect.

The automated license plate readers capture license plate numbers, vehicle descriptions and the time and location a vehicle passes a camera. Law enforcement agencies have credited the cameras with helping investigators locate dangerous fugitives, including a wanted child sex offender.
