Investigation finds 2 local apartment buildings unlicensed, evicting tenants

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A mother of seven and a disabled veteran were living in Augusta apartment complexes that the city had not licensed — and both were facing eviction after raising concerns about their living conditions, a News 12 investigation found.

The two properties — Brook Landing Apartments and Pace Corners — are owned by separate out-of-state real estate investment groups. Both carried active code violations. Neither held a current city business license at the time of the investigation.

‘The apartments look nothing like the brochure’

Vantoria McNair moved into Brook Landing Apartments on April 3, paying $1,000 a month for herself and her seven children. The unit did not match what the property’s website advertised.

“They said they had remodeled them,” McNair said. “The apartments look nothing like the brochure.”…
