Hail blankets parts of Aurora, leaving streets, parking lots covered in ice

AURORA, Colo. (KDVR) — A hailstorm swept through parts of Aurora on Monday, covering some neighborhoods in ice and creating scenes that residents said looked more like winter than late spring.

The storm produced hail up to 1.25 inches in diameter in some areas of Aurora, according to the National Weather Service. While some Aurora neighborhoods remained largely untouched, others were left with piles of hail that lingered for hours after the storm passed.

“The heavens opened up, and here comes the hail,” said Jackie Levell, who witnessed the storm in the Gateway Park area. “It must have lasted just under 10 minutes. I couldn’t believe what a steady flow.”
