Aurora Fire Department investigating string of suspected arson fires near apartment complexes

AURORA, Colo. (KDVR) — The Aurora Fire Department is investigating a series of grass and brush fires in an area around South Dallas Street and East Mansfield Avenue as potential arson.

The fires have occurred within the last two weeks, in grassy areas across the highway from the Dayton light rail station. No buildings have been damaged, and no injuries have been reported.

According to Aurora Fire Rescue, the first incident occurred on June 10, when two or three fires were burning. The most recent fire was reported on June 19, when crews said a grass fire grew to the size of three basketball courts.

Residents at a nearby condominium complex say seeing flames near the property has become a regular occurrence.

“I came home, and the bush over here was on fire. And I was like, ‘okay, that’s weird,’” Jessica Beck said. “Then I came home one day and a police officer was standing there, and then the fire department came and put it out.”…
