Swimmer trying to cross metro lake rescued just before falling underwater

DENVER (KDVR) — South Metro Fire Rescue paramedics earlier this week saved a swimmer who got stuck nearly 200 yards from the shore of a Denver metro area lake he had been trying to cross.

The swimmer on Tuesday was trying to cross Eaglewatch Lake, which runs along the North Platte River just north of Chatfield State Park in Littleton, when he got tired in the middle of the lake, the fire agency said.

Witnesses said he was treading water for about 20 minutes before the rescuers arrived. The rescuers found him about 150 to 200 yards from shore struggling to stay above water and starting to slip underneath…
