DENVER, CO — Retirement can still work on a modest budget if income, savings and everyday costs stay in balance. One Denver retiree says she has managed to live comfortably on about $2,000 a month by keeping her spending close to $1,800.
Amelia Thompson, 65, retired in 2018 after working as a freelancer and former teacher at schools across Colorado. By the time she stopped working, she had saved about $150,000.

Budget choices keep costs below income

She keeps that total down by cooking at home, choosing free or low-cost activities and avoiding unnecessary purchases.
