AURORA, Colo. (KDVR) – A new class action lawsuit is challenging the City of Aurora’s photo radar program, alleging the city failed to give drivers the amount of time required under Colorado law to respond to speed camera citations.

The lawsuit claims that a 2023 state law requires municipalities using photo enforcement to give drivers 45 days from the time they receive a citation to respond. Attorney Alex Dorotik, who represents the plaintiff, argues Aurora’s program only allows 30 days.
“The Colorado legislature passed a law that said if you have photo radar or any sort of photo enforcement, then you have to give someone 45 days from the time they receive the ticket to respond,” Dorotik said.
