City Park Jazz concert series closes out summer of resilience following destruction of bandshell

Party dance band JAKARTA closed out this year’s City Park Jazz concert series Sunday on a makeshift stage, marking the end to a summer of resilience following a March fire that destroyed Denver’s 100-year-old City Park bandshell.

The fire, which Denver police said was intentionally set by an arsonist on March 26, severely damaged the iconic 1929 structure. It had served as the centerpiece of City Park Jazz performances for 40 years.

This year’s unorthodox performance set up — a temporary stage situated about 300 feet southeast of the destroyed bandstand — didn’t stop performers, music lovers and summer revelers from making the most of the series…
