MORE than a million Americans are being warned they could face fines of up to $1,000 for repeatedly breaking strict lawn-watering rules.

Residents must stick to assigned days and limit outdoor watering to just twice a week as officials crack down during a severe drought.

The restrictions affect Denver Water customers across Denver and surrounding Colorado suburbs, where the utility supplies water to about 1.5 million people.
