The Boulder Valley School District will close four elementary schools, restructure grade levels at two K-8 schools and relocate two elementary focus schools in response to continued enrollment declines.
The school board voted 5-2 Tuesday to approve the district’s proposal, which was announced about a month ago. Parents who opposed the plan rallied at Arapahoe Avenue and 65th Street outside the Education Center ahead of the meeting. Parents also gathered more than 5,500 petition signatures urging a “no” vote.
“The seven of us knew that we could not continue to provide the educational services our students deserve if we chose an easy route and did nothing … If we vote to not close schools today, not only are we saddling a future board with this difficult work, we are actively creating a segregated school district,” school board President Nicole Rajpal said…
