Multi-car pileup near DIA causes traffic issues

DENVER ( KDVR ) — A vehicle pileup Tuesday morning caused traffic issues near Denver International Airport.

According to DIA, there was a vehicle pileup on Peña Boulevard , and it was impacting travelers attempting to leave the airport. The crash was cleared by about 1:11 p.m., according to Denver International Airport.

Peña Boulevard was closed and traffic was diverted to Tower Road.

At this time, it is unclear how many cars were involved, but the Denver Police Department confirmed there were not any serious injuries .

DIA was also experiencing several delays. According to FlightAware , there were 182 delays and four cancellations as of 10:18 a.m. As of 4 p.m., there were 656 delays and 14 cancellations. Cancellations and delays continued to pour in throughout the day as weather impacted flights.

Roads became quickly coated with snow and ice as a snow squall moved through the Denver metro on Tuesday.

A snow squall warning was issued for Denver County through 10 a.m. as a quick burst of heavy snow dumped on the area and caused whiteout conditions.
