JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — A pregnant woman asked a judge to reconsider her sentence to a Lakewood halfway house weeks before she’s due to give birth.
Attorney Cameron Bedard with Rights & Liberties Law Firm spoke to FOX31 about his client’s predicament: mom-to-be Arnston is currently serving a three-year community corrections sentence in the Intervention Community Corrections Services facility in Lakewood for a felony level DUI. A State of Colorado Criminal History Check showed this was not Arnston’s first DUI.

Bedard told FOX31 Arnston should be eligible for an alternative sentencing option because of the Alternatives in Criminal Justice System and Pregnant Persons Act passed in Colorado in 2023.
“She has gone through rehabilitation,” Bedard said. “She has gone through recovery. She has been sober. She has done all of the things that this legislature says do not constitute a public safety risk. Therefore, punishment is not appropriate. A rehabilitative resolution outside of a carceral setting is.”…
