THORNTON, Colo. — After looking into allegations about a Thornton Police Department officer who, a complaint alleged, ran nearly 20,000 Flock searches in just over two years, an internal audit determined there was no evidence of misuse by that officer, Thornton Police Chief Jim Baird said on Monday.
In April, the City of Thornton received a complaint regarding the officer’s use of the Flock Automated License Plate Reader system, a media release from the police chief said. The complaint was submitted by Jacob Wilson, of Thornton for All, and it alleged misuse of the system by a specific Thornton officer, identified in public records as “D. McT,” who stood out far above others on the third-party website, Have I Been Flocked. The website compiles public records of Flock data audits from Flock’s national camera network.
The complaint also said only 29 of the alleged 19,194 searches were associated with specific case numbers — fewer than 1% of the total searches. It also alleged repeated searches of the same license plates over long periods and search activity outside normal working hours…
