E. coli alert tied to beef at Kebab Shop restaurants, including in Texas

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has issued a public health alert for beef used by the Kebab Shop restaurants in Texas, California and Florida. It has been tied to cases of E. coli, a type of food poisoning.

The ground beef was produced on Jan. 6 by Olympia Food Industries in Illinois and supplied to the Kebab Shop locations in those three states. The beef was used in the beef kofta, a meatball-like kebab.

The Texas Department of State Health Services has not issued an alert about local E. coli cases tied to the beef kofta or noted any Texas cases.
