The city of Austin is extending its activity ban on Lady Bird Lake, Lake Austin and the Colorado River until Thursday at 5 p.m.
The extension comes as floodgates at the Tom Miller Dam and the Mansfield Dam remain open to release stored water from the heavy rains last week. The increased precipitation caused severe flooding throughout the Hill Country and created high, swift-moving water. That, paired with flood debris, means the waterways are unsafe to use, according to the city’s order.
“Personal and commercial watercraft, wet bikes, motorized surfboards, canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, and other similar devices are not allowed on the following waterways in Austin,” the order read…
