After more than 40 years of having a grocery store in their neck of the woods, a Northwest Austin neighborhood is bidding farewell to its community mainstay.
Back in late May, San Antonio-based H-E-B announced it would be closing its Spicewood Springs location at the end of July, with its final day of operations confirmed as Friday, July 31. The news marked a substantial change for the Texas capital neighborhood, which had benefited from a grocer presence for over four decades.
In the years since H-E-B set up shop, the Spicewood Springs location remained one of the company’s smaller and more outdated stores. Amid its closure news in late May, H-E-B leadership acknowledged the store’s lease is coming to an end and the company opted not to renew.
That decision came largely in part due to an internal company review of H-E-B’s existing network and store footprint, and where best to invest its resources.
“While decisions like this are never easy, we are grateful to the customers, Partners, and community who have supported this store over the years,” Cathy Harm, H-E-B senior vice president, Central Texas, said in a late May statement sent to MySA. “As this lease comes to an end, we remain committed to serving this area and have invested in more updated stores nearby to further enhance the shopping experience and provide the products, conveniences, and services our customers deserve.”…
