AUSTIN (KXAN) – Austin ISD has reversed part of its planned transportation overhaul for the upcoming school year and will restore neighborhood-level bus stops for middle school students after receiving community feedback.

In a letter to families, district officials said the decision came after reviewing public comments about the transportation hub model announced earlier this week.
Austin ISD said savings generated by the closure of Paredes Middle School and other budget reductions identified after the adoption of the district’s 2026-27 budget will be used to cover the additional transportation costs associated with reinstating neighborhood bus stops for middle school students.
According to the release, middle school bus stop information will be updated in the district’s Bus Stop Finder system over the next several days. Final middle school routes and stops are expected to be available Aug. 13…
