A Teen Called 911. Austin Police Shot Him in a Playground

At 3:51 in the morning on July 24, someone called Austin 911 to report a young man with a gun in a parking lot near Baden Lane. Four minutes later, surveillance cameras picked up Anthoneil Williams II walking into the park at 10110 Baden Lane in northeast Austin. He was seventeen. He sat down on a low wall beside the playground. Nobody else was in the park. He stayed there for the better part of seven minutes, in the dark, in July, in Texas.

Officers arrived. At 4:02, three of them opened fire. Anthoneil died there next to the swings, and the object in his waistband turned out to be a water bottle.
