Buda’s Berry Tasty Bakery Bets on South Austin With First Storefront

A Buda dessert shop known for its towering cheesecakes and traditional chocoflan is preparing to open its first brick-and-mortar storefront in South Austin, moving beyond the food truck park where it built its following. Berry Tasty Bakery plans to open at 429 W. Ben White Blvd. SVRD EB, Unit E, in Austin, with the location expected to debut sometime between late 2026 and early 2027, pending permits.

The news comes from a report by WhatNow, which first detailed the bakery’s expansion plans. Javier Jiménez, who is Berry Tasty founder Juanita Rivera’s partner and serves as a company representative, confirmed the timeline to the outlet. The Ben White Boulevard address will mark Berry Tasty’s second overall location and its first traditional storefront in Austin proper, following its original setup as a bakery and food truck based in Buda.

Rivera’s baking story stretches back nearly two decades before any storefront was on the table. She began her path in 2007 when her older sister taught her to make her first chocoflan — the Mexican dessert that layers chocolate cake with creamy flan — as a gift for her husband, according to the bakery’s own account on its website. That early lesson grew into a personal motto for Rivera, who describes her baked goods as a kind of love language.

What started as recipe experimentation and sharing desserts with friends and family eventually became a business. Rivera turned her passion into Berry Tasty Bakery in 2022, and she later formalized her pastry training by earning a diploma in basic pastry arts in 2021, per the same account relayed to WhatNow. The bakery’s retail debut came on May 3, 2024, when it opened its food truck at the C & J Rail Switch food truck park at 400 N. Main St. in downtown Buda, according to Community Impact…
