Picnik reopened its doors at 4801 Burnet Road on Monday, August 24, launching a stripped-down concept that serves just one farm-to-table meal a day, cooked with what the restaurant calls the highest-quality ingredients it can source. The relaunch caps a temporary closure that began July 27, when founder Naomi Seifter shut down the Austin restaurant to rebuild it from the ground up.
The new Picnik is running a week-long soft opening through the week of August 24, according to Community Impact, which reported that the limited-menu stretch is meant to let staff train, serve real customers, and gather data before settling into a permanent routine. Per an Instagram post cited in that report, the restaurant is open for lunch and dinner service from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Seifter spent the weeks after the July closure building what she has described as a restaurant centered on nourishing, health-promoting food, the outlet reported. In a statement shared with the publication, Picnik said, “We wanted a place that you could eat at every single day where the ultimate standard was the ingredient integrity and nourishment.” The team also acknowledged the concept is still taking shape in real time, saying, “We are literally building the car as we are driving it.”
From Food Trailer to Full-Circle Ownership
Seifter launched Picnik in 2013 as a 150-square-foot food trailer, and the brand opened its first sit-down restaurant three years later.
