Sarkisian: Texas State a ‘heck of a challenge’ in Week 1

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Week 1 of the 2026 season has officially arrived for No. 5 Texas as the Longhorns prepare for Texas State on Saturday at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.

After weeks of fall camp and preseason preparation, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian turned his attention on Monday to a Texas State program he believes will provide an early test for his program.

“Ton of respect for G.J Kinne and the job he’s done at Texas State,” Sarkisian said. “They’ve kind of elevated as a program. They’re now in the Pac-12, and he’s got a really good football team.”

Kinne has led the Bobcats to a 23-16 record in his first three seasons, which includes three straight bowl wins.
