AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man was convicted Aug. 28 on several charges in connection with a 2023 deadly attack.
According to the Travis County District Attorney’s Office, Brian Davis, 43, was sentenced to 60 years for murder, 25 years for robbery and 5 years for evading arrest with a prior conviction. His sentences will be served concurrently in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
This case stems from an Oct. 3, 2023 attack that led to the death of 53-year-old John Walker Oden.
Austin Police investigators discovered that Davis and his girlfriend at the time where guests at Oden’s house. But just after midnight on Oct. 3, Oden offered to drive the two to the hospital to address a medical issue.

While Oden was driving, Davis “attacked him from the backseat of the vehicle with a battleaxe-style hatchet. When he stopped the car on the frontage road, Davis pulled Oden out of the vehicle, got in the front seat and drove over him…
